You can’t imagine how happy I am to launch this project today after thinking about it for months and making the decision to go for it just before my second child was born. Nowadays, launching a blog is not as appealing as it used to be with all the information we constantly receive through the media, social networks, blogs, etc. If I’m realistic, it’s hard to think anyone apart from my family and (a few) friends will read what I write and look at my photographs. Also, time is a scarce commodity when you have two kids and work full time. Still, this is something I really wanted to do. If I hadn’t, I would have regretted it.
I guess if you’re here it’s because you know me personally or follow me on Instagram, so you know how much I love photography and writing. Until recently, I was totally happy with Instagram as it gave me the opportunity to show my pictures and to write. However, sometimes I feel I need to control myself on the number of pictures I post or how much I say. To give you an example, every time we go to the beautiful Alps and I get enthusiastic with the camera, I say to myself that it’s going to be boring if I post more than a couple of pictures and comment on a couple of highlights of the trip on Instagram. I would much rather love to show you the beauty of these mountains with several full screen pictures and tell you as much as I can about the things we do and you could also do if you visited Switzerland one day. I believe the blog format allows a more in-depth approach and that’s why I’m here today.
Finding a name for this blog was a painful and funny experience at the same time. I remember an evening this summer, lying on the grass with Philippe watching a meteor shower and brainstorming. My husband is not such a very creative person (a Physicist with lots of other qualities, though!), so it was really funny to listen to his ideas. After lots of thinking, I was almost sure I wanted a name related to the lake, as it is really important in our life here and I like everything about it. But my friends weren’t as enthusiastic as I was… They said it made them think of a sailing blog or something like that!
But I was pretty convinced about a lake-related blog title until I got inspired one night. This corner of mine is mainly about photography (lens) and the sensibility I hope my pictures express. That’s how Lens and Sensibility came up.
This is going to be a place where I can share: share my love for photography through my family pictures and those of the families I am honoured to photograph; share our adventures as a multicultural family living in a beautiful country. Even if they aren’t extraordinary experiences, I really want to share and document them for the future, when my kids will have grown up. And I want it to to be a place where I can share anything I like and you like, from flowers I buy to places I visit.
If you’re still reading this at this point, I would like to thank you and ask you what you think about my project. I would really love to have your feedback. Although a blog is something very personal, sharing it makes it a much more exciting experience!
