People often ask me why I mainly do family lifestyle sessions and no other types of photography. The truth is I mainly do family sessions because those are the ones which deeply move me right now. Perhaps I feel closer to families because I’m going through a very similar stage in my life and that makes me enjoy those sessions a lot. I guess I’m lucky to be able to choose, because I have another job which pays the mortgage and allows me to do photography by passion and not by obligation.
Let me be honest: First Communion photography wasn’t within my plans. But when my friend Ana asked me a year ago if I’d like to do the First Communion photography session of her daughter Lucía, I couldn’t say no. Ana has forever been one of my best friends. I’ve known her since I was a girl. We were neighbours, went to the same school and high school and managed to stay close friends over the years despite the distance.
I therefore accepted her request, even if it wasn’t clear to me how I’d approach the session, because Ana was giving me all the creative freedom I could hope for. I wanted a non-posed session, a session during which you don’t mind getting your dress dirty. I wanted it to be set in the countryside, I wanted flowers and I wanted the session to focus on the family, not only on Lucía and her gorgeous dress. I wanted emotional moments and, above all, I wanted to photograph Ana with her daughters and husband because, as you probably know, we’re often absent from our families’ photos when we should in fact be on them with our loved ones. Our children also deserve to have memories of their mum on pictures.
Here are some of the pictures I took on that day. I really hope you like them as much as I do!
