The Traveling Dress Project by Bea

Bea was the first person I told about The Traveling Dress project which I introduced you to on this blog post. She’s as passionate about photography as I am and one of the few people I can talk to about it without being a bore (or at least she doesn’t complain about it!). She’s also a friend I can turn to for advice on a photo I’m not totally convinced about and I know she’ll give me sincere, useful feedback. I’m pretty sure you already know her, but if not, you can’t miss her photos on her Instagram feed, @camparinagreen. I love her mastering of light, her portraits and her sense of humor.

When I asked her to join the project, she didn’t think twice. It turned out the traveling dress travelled more than we expected. It has already travelled from Switzerland to Asturias (Spain) twice as there was a problem with the address and it was sent back to me! But luckily Bea finally got it and did an amazing session.

I asked her to tell us more about how the session went and here’s what she answered:

“When I was invited to join The Traveling Dress project, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to do and express. But when the dress arrived, my little one was already born and I had to change my initial idea. Instead of doing a self-portraits session, I decided to call a model and to improvise a little…

I was lucky to have my sister around to do the modeling. The dress fitted her perfectly (better than it did me) and she was patient enough to put up with all the decisions and hesitations of an inexperienced director like me. The location was also rather improvised: the initial idea was to set the shooting in an abandoned industrial building but it was too far away. As we were on holiday in my family’s village, I opted for an abandoned church close by and finished the shooting at sunset on the beach, which is always a safe bet, especially in my region. Basically that’s it!

As you can see, I aimed for simplicity, without any complements or props which would have diverted the attention from the main object of the session: the dress. I hope you like the photos as much as I enjoyed taking part in the project.Thank you very much, Marta, for organizing it, for trusting me and for encouraging me to take a step further in photography.
