An afternoon walk around Coppet

November 10, 2020

We can’t travel, but we often forget that we have everything we need around the corner.

I’ve been wanting to take you on a tour of one of my favourite villages in the region for a long time. Coppet has everything to fall in love with: the charm of its medieval architecture, a famous castle where Madame de Staël lived and where she invited members of the European intellectual elite in the 19th century, the omnipresent Lake Geneva and a few stores that you can’t miss.

Coppet harbour If you’re in Coppet's harbour, have a coffee at its buvette until a boat from the Compagnie générale de navigation (CGN) arrives. It's a spectacular moment because of the beauty of the boats and the views from the harbour. From here, you can even see the famous Geneva jet d’eau. %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name
Coppet’s streets
Since we moved to the region eight years ago, I’ve never got tired of walking its streets and discovering new corners. Walking around Coppet, you’ll find cute little houses, hidden gardens, streets that lead directly to the lake, streams... It’s amazing that such a little village has so much to offer. %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name
Coppet castle
This is the only inhabited castle in the canton of Vaud. It can be visited in autumn and spring and is well known because Mme de Staël lived here after being exiled by Napoleon. Illustrious figures of the time such as Benjamin Constant, Charles-Victor de Bonstetten or Auguste Guillaume Schlegel payed her a visit here. Today the castle has a very active cultural life. It hosts classical music concerts, parties of all kinds and a famous Christmas market. If you come to the castle, don't forget to take a walk in its beautiful garden. In winter, you can skate on its ice rink! %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name
Stores you can't miss
Guillaume Bichet's bakery and cafeteria
His cakes are a delight and the new cafeteria is pure elegance.
The Casagiu decoration store
I could take everything home every time I go there!
Fantasia Fleurs, the flower shop
This florist has nothing to do with the aseptic ones that now abound in Geneva. It has a soul, a very friendly owner and floral workshops are organized here all year round.
Coppet's pharmacy
You’ll probably think it’s strange that I recommend a pharmacy, but the truth is that it’s such a good one! Coppet's pharmacy is specialized in natural medicine and they advise you and prepare brews for all kinds of health problems. These are just some of the places worth stopping at if you come to spend an afternoon in Coppet, but there are many more I’m sure you’ll love discovering. And if you can't come because Coppet’s a bit far away for you, have a look at the photos I took of the children while we were walking around the village on a beautiful autumn afternoon. The kids are wearing clothes and shoes from a store that we love and that I told you about in a previous post, Shoe Chou. %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name %Site Name-%Image Name
